To transfer settings from an existing Internet account to your new computer

  • Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Internet Connection Wizard.
  • Click I want to transfer my existing Internet account to this computer, and then click Next.

  • Follow the instructions on the screen for setting up your dial-up properties and detecting your modem.
  • After Windows Me identifies your modem, it dials a toll-free number to contact the Microsoft Internet Referral Service and retrieve a list of ISPs in your area.

  • If your ISP is listed, follow the directions for selecting it and transferring your Internet account settings. If your ISP is not listed, click Cancel to exit the Internet Connection wizard, and then call the support number of your ISP. Let them know you want to transfer your Internet account settings to your new computer. They'll walk you through their process and get you connected quickly.

  • When you finish transferring your settings, you can connect to the Internet by locating your preferred browser program and then double-clicking its icon.

Tips: If you want to transfer your MSN account, just double-click the Setup MSN Internet Access icon on the desktop, and then follow the instruc-tions on the screen. If you want to gain access to the Internet by using Internet Explorer once your account is set up, double-click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop.

Many Web surfers, one Internet connection

Windows Me makes it possible for you to simultaneously connect more than one computer in your home to the Internet-using your single Internet account. It's called Internet Connection Sharing, and it's a feature of Windows Me Home Networking. Internet Connection Sharing works for most Internet accounts, and the other computers can even be running other versions of Windows. For more information, click the Start button, click Help (to open Microsoft Help and Support), click Home Networking, and then click Sharing your Internet connection.

Note: Your ISP may charge you for connecting multiple computers through a single Internet connection.
